Sun-kissed skin and salty locks – the essence of the WA girl
It’s that time of year again in Perth, when WA designers dominate the city for Telstra Perth Fashion Festival (TPFF).
The five-day festival kicked off on Tuesday 20 September, and the following night I attended my first show: WA Designer Capsule.
This show was taken over by three Perth designers: House of Skye, Bruug and Natalie Rolt. I was really excited about this runway as I absolutely adore Natalie Rolt – I was rooting for her at the WA Fashion Awards earlier this year, where I wore one of her designs and met the lovely lady herself. Plus I loved House of Skye’s collection last year and have been eyeing up a lot of clothes from Bruug on Instagram.
I got to sneak backstage before the show to get up close to the hair and make-up looks, and talk to show sponsors L’Oreal.
“They’re WA designers, so they want to stay true to WA,” explained L’Oreal Stylist Melissa Gesualdo. This meant laid-back boho styles with relaxed plaits, messy ponytails and centre parts.
The key products Melissa and her team used to create the looks were L’Oreal Beach Waves and Super Dust. These two products create texture, shine and roughed up body for the Brigitte Bardot inspired barnets.
The make-up was also very West Australian and complimented the beach waves perfectly. Simone Cohan from SC Artistry described the make-up as “very bronzed and natural with fluffed up brows”.
Summer was definitely in the air…
