REVIEW: New Maybelline Hyper Sharp Wing Liner and Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

The latest cosmetics from Maybelline are out, but only one really impresses

A couple of weeks ago I was after a new liquid liner pen. One Facebook shoutout later, and I was heading towards the Maybelline stand. Several beauty bloggers told me they loved Maybelline’s Hyper Sharp Wing Liner, so I grabbed it in Priceline in a bargain pack coupled with Maybelline’s new Lash Sensational Mascara.

Maybelline’s Hyper Sharp Wing Liquid Liner

Hyper Sharp Wing Liquid Liner is not your average pen liner. The tip is pointed but flat, so you can angle it for a thick or thin line. The formula sweeps on with easily and the pen dispenses a good amount of liner and it’s not too wet, so you don’t have to go over your line too many times or have a cotton bud at the ready incase blacks starts running everywhere.

In the image below I’ve used the thick side on top and the thin side on my lower lash line. I loved the result but it was short lived. The staying power of this liner isn’t the best, if you rub the corner of your eye it comes off and you’ll be left with liner starting from half way across your eyelid, plus it sometimes runs down onto your lower lash line.

Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Mascara

When choosing a mascara, I want long, thick, curly lashes, so I always opt for a fat brush over a comb. When I bought Lash Sensational, I didn’t know it was a comb jobbie until I open it, but it promised to make my lashes sensational, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt.

To my surprise I found the comb fantastic! It has 10 layers of bristles and is quite chunky so you get a good amount of mascara to apply. Lash Sensational’s formula doesn’t crumble or flake and it’s buildable. For a natural day look one coat is enough, but for a more dramatic look you can apply two and the comb makes sure you won’t get spider-legs, just thick fluttery lashes. In the image below I have applied two coats on my upper lashes and used the comb’s smaller teeth to coat my lower lashes just once.

I’m pretty happy with Maybelline’s Lash Sensation and would recommend it. As for the Hyper Sharp Wing liner, I’d say go for it if you don’t rub or touch your eyes much, as it will come off!

Have you tried this new duo? What’s your favourite eyeliner and mascara?
