Beauty and the beach

Protect and nourish with these beach bag beauty essentials

Sun, sea and sand; its the idyllic combo, right? However, when it comes to your beauty regime, it’s anything but.

Sunburnt skin, dry lips and scarecrow hair (or is that just me?) are a few traumas we go through for the golden tan and “sexy” beach hair. Next time, pop a few of these products in your beach bag to keep your skin and hair hydrated; then you can skip off into the sunset hotter than Miranda Kerr.

1. Schwartkoft BB Cream for Hair, $10.99

Taking a swim in the sea is pretty traumatic for your hair. Schwartkoft’s BB cream for hair contains 11 benefits to nourish, strengthen, smooth and detangle hair. Apply it to your damp locks after a dip and comb it through with a Tangle Teezer (number 3). Want to know more? Click here for my full review.

2. Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser, $80

Designed for mature or very dry skin, this creamy unfragranced moisturiser will put back any moisture the beach strips from your face. Although it doesn’t contain SPF, the antioxidants from the pomegranate extract and Vitamin E helps protect skin against free radical damage caused by pollution and the sun’s radiation. It’s fantastic for soothing my eczema, which flares up in the sun.

3. Tangle Teezer Compact Styler, $18.80

Sand + sea breeze = carpet hair. This handy compact brush has flexible bristles that gently combs out knots.

4. Carmex SPF15 Lip Balm in Peach, $7

Carmex’s lip balm contains SPF and glides on like butter, moisturising and protecting lips from the sun. The colour is a beautiful deep peach and leaves lips with a dewy finish. But keep it out the heat or it will melt!

5. Palmers Cocoa Butter Lip Balm, $3.49

If you prefer a clear balm, try Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lip Balm. It’s just as moisturising as Carmex’s balm, but has a natural finish and a more solid formula.

6. Dettol Moisturising Hand Sanitiser, $3.69

Beach toilets are hideous and rarely have soap or anything to dry your hands with, so Dettol’s mini hand sanitiser is great to pop in your bag and use before you tuck into your picnic. Don’t worry about this one drying out your skin either, as it contains camomile and aloe to keep hands hydrated.

7. Le Tan Coconut Spray SPF 30, $16.99

I adore the coconut scent of this beautiful suncream. It soaks into skin easily and comes in various bottles (spray, pump, pour) and factors.
