Smells Like Australia

The products I’ve loved during my first 9 months in Perth

Isn’t it awesome how our sense of smell can transport us back to a certain time or exact moment?

Last month I flew home to England to visit my family and friends. When I got back to Perth and sprayed my perfume the next morning, I hadn’t realised how much that fragrance brought me back to Australia. That got me thinking about the products I slathered onto myself when I first arrived at the end of December, desperate to keep my English skin and hair hydrated. Now, every time I use them, their scent reminds me of my first Australian summer.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh

This was the perfume that inspired this post. My staple perfume is Marc Jacobs Daisy, but I got a bottle of Eau So Fresh – a lighter and, well, fresher version of the floral perfume – for Christmas. Perfect timing for the Aussie summer.

Moroccanoil Light Treatment

This used to work a treat back home, but I think my hair had started to get used to it because out here it’s not as effective. I applied the heady, aromatic oil 2-3 times a day to get some moisture back into my ends, but it was no match for the Aussie sun. It reminds me of warm, dry mornings, when I’d roll out of bed and attempt to de-scarecrow before my boyfriend opened his eyes.

Dr Lewinn’s Instant Beauty Radiance Booster

I’m not sure if this actually gave me an external radiance boost, but its hydrating and antioxidant-rich properties sure would have helped internally. The 70% Aloe Vera formula has a soothing plant scent, that I used to smell every morning before I left the house.

The Body Shop Shea Body Butter

I used to slather this all over my body before I went to bed to rehydrate my skin and leave it soft after a day of sunbathing.

Palmers Cocoa Butter Exfoliating Facial Scrub

This scrub reminds me of Margaret River. I’d only been out here a few days and my eczema had already made my face resemble a tissue that had gone through the washing machine. I needed a gentle exfoliator and Palmers was the first one I found. It’s a nicely scented gentle scrub, but it didn’t give my skin the hydration it needed it such a desperate time.

Le Tan Coconut Spray

Who isn’t reminded of the beach and holidays when they smell coconut? I cannot wait to spritz this suncream on sprawl out on the sand again. Bring on my second Australian summer!

Which products remind you of summer? Know any you think will help my Pommy skin or hair this year?
